AAHHE works collaboratively with all sectors of education, business, industry, as well as community and professional organizations to enhance the educational aspirations and to meet the needs of a significantly increasing Hispanic population. 

AAHHE Announces Appointment of 2025 Chair and Chair-elect and Six New BOD Members.

The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) is beginning its twentieth year as the premier national association representing Latinx faculty, administrators, students and professionals in higher education. AAHHE is proud to announce the appointments of:

• Dr. Marissa Vasquez as chair of the Board of Directors and Dr. James Rodriguez as chair-elect for the year 2025 – 2026. 
• Six new members to the Board of Directors:
• Luz Burgos-Lopez, MS (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2027), AAHHE Graduate Student Member at Large, PhD Candidate, Neag School of Education, University of Connecticut-Storrs
• Alyssa Cervantes Benavidez, PhD (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028), AAHHE Faculty Member at Large, Managing Director, Academic Affairs, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso)
• Cristina Garcia, MA (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028), Founder & CEO, Conéctate Green Strategies
• Mike Muñoz, PhD (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028), Superintendent-President, Long Beach City College
• Maria Oropeza Fujimoto, PhD (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028), Associate Professor, Applied and Advanced Studies in Education, California State University, Los Angeles
• Laura Ramirez, EdD (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028), Assistant Superintendent/Vice President Instruction, Pasadena Area Community College District 

The addition of members to the Board of Directors brings the total number of AAHHE Board members to twenty. Collectively, the new Directors bring deep experience and understanding of educational leadership, teaching, policy, community engagement, diversity, Latinx studies, and social sciences.
